The current major iOS is 18 and the next one will be . . . iOS 26? Got it? Good! But if you’d like an explanation read on. Despite technology being designed to make things easier, sometimes many are confused by use, purpose, or, as in this case, naming convention. To be fair, Apple has been known to make technology easily consumable for a long time now. However, no matter how easy something is in tech, there are always some who don’t adopt right away. And this example really may be a fleeting one, in other words, by the time people get used to the change the point of this article may be moot. Still, I feel like this is the type of thing Apple does not let users know about in advance and the idea there might be, “If we tell consumers about an out of the ordinary change before it happens, it will create more confusion than if we did not.” And that might be a valid point but since the news is out, I’m discussing it here. Next week at Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference om Monday, June 9 Tim Cook will reveal the biggest change in Apple software in a long time and, “it’s biggest software rebranding.” TL;DR The idea is to make things easier. It will be iOS 26 because it’s being launched for 2026. The models of iPhones may also follow suit.
