Breaking news: Today all talents from VShojo (pronounced Vee Show Joe), officially VHsojo Inc. resigned following accusations of mismanagement among other things. I won’t say what the, “other things” are due to legality and the fact that this just happened but I think it’s ok to say that some said this is apparently because of the movement of money. A little background for context, this company is (was?) an American talent aagence that promoted VTuber content creators. Thew company started in November of 2020 and is based in San Francisco. Another layer of context, VTubers or Virtual YouTubers are online content creators and or entertainers who use a virtual avatar created via computer graphics. And these are often further enhanced by real-time motion capture. This movement started in Japan in the mid-2010s and by 2020, there more more than 10,000 active VTubers. NOTE: This is just the number of these creators, the revenue they generate is enormous. Besides YouTube this is used on Facebook, Twitter, Twitch (owned by Amazon), Niconico, and Bilibili. Ironmouse is a woman who is a popular VTuber and she alone has 1.3 million subscribers in YouTube and 2.3 million followers on Twitch. In 2024 she became the most-subscriber Twitch streamer of all time. She’s been an incredible champion to raise awareness about and charity for immune disorders. And yesterday, she left VShojo. She posted a video about it yesterday and it’s been seen over 860,000 times. Also apparently legal proceedings are on the way. You can read about some of the allegations in the attached article from Newsweek. What’s going to happen? – It’s hard to see the impact financially right now but as of right now I’ll say it looks like this might be the end of this specific talent agency at least.
How will the following affect YouTube and other video platforms?
